You seem to have left out the concept of projection, perhaps the most powerful driver of outrage.
I project onto others, the disowned, eschewed, denied, suppressed traits which I hate in myself and then can be hugely outraged to 'see' them or 'recognise' them in others.
In fact, I am outraged that you omitted this concept in your post. Utterly outraged. What kind of academic leaves out such an important concept? Etc Etc Etc.
Whom I'm really then talking about, is myself and my fears of not being a good-enough academic etc etc etc.
