Psychodynamic Psychotherapy seeks to help people by helping them understand themselves and their experiences.
You have been depressed for some time, feel burned out or exhausted, are plagued by fears of whatever kind, have sleeping problems, suicidal thoughts, obsessive compulsions, an eating disorder, are psychosomatically ill, have an addiction problem, are in a professional or private crisis, have long struggled with a life problem that does not want to change or you have a serious illness and need support. At times, it is necessary to face these challenges from a psychological perspective. I can offer you the opportunity to discover what the problem is and what contribution psychotherapeutic work can do in helping you.

Psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapy is a way to examine life and to get a glimpse of the unconscious fundamentals of our being. With this method, unconscious patterns can be discovered and worked through. For example, past experiences can be integrated to improve psychological well-being, the quality of interpersonal relationships, and the sense of self. In many cases, the changes achieved through therapy are subtle; they flow almost unnoticed into everyday life. However, in my eyes, psychoanalytical therapy also carries the chance of radical breaks that could be described as existential shifts.

I have worked as a psychotherapist and psychoanalyst for 8+ years and the wellbeing of my clients always comes first. That's why I offer same-day/within 24 hours appointments and I am WhatsApp available (0043 676 3862527). Mental health should be taken as seriously as any other physical condition and it is important for me to offer an environment where this is possible. Many of us grow up without the privilege of a safe nest or having someone who understands us and therapy can be the start of that experience.

Psychodynamic Counsellors

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
