Licorice root may be as effective in treating ulcers as someordinary prescription and over-the-counter medications. A form of licorice that is deglycyrrhizined—which means that one of the active ingredients, glycyrrhiza has been removed—is a powerful anti-inflammatory that soothes the stomach lining, reducing redness and tenderness without raising blood pressure or stimulating the nervous system.
