A study from Columbia Business School found that talking heads on CNBC are more likely to describe a stock as having a mind of its own when it's up, and also when it moves steadily (in either direction). Agent metaphors also make viewers assume the trend will continue.


Eye Spy

Patterns in the eye could reveal your personality. People with more pits in the iris are likely to be warm-hearted and trusting, while those with more lines curving around the iris' outer edge tend to be neurotic and impulsive, thanks to a gene (Pax6) connected to both eye and brain development.


The Milky Way

Coffee isn't the only breakfast pick-me-up—try yogurt. In a study, depressed subjects who drank milk with probiotics showed improved mood after 20 days. Author David Benton says cytokines (chemical messengers) produced by the gut may be involved.

Early risers are more agreeable than those who prefer the P.M. hours. Morning people also have more stable personalities and lower levels of aggression, supporting the idea that serotonin is involved in keeping both moods and circadian rhythms regular. Gives new meaning to "you snooze, you lose."

Couples who laugh together stay together—especially if they reminisce about it. Romantic pairs who recall an experience of shared laughter show a greater immediate upswing in relationship satisfaction than couples who remember positive but unfunny shared moments or bouts of independent laughter. More good news for coffee addicts: There's yet another benefit to the drink. A study finds that coffee contains significantly higher levels of soluble dietary fiber than other common beverages, even orange juice. The dietary fiber found in coffee beans passes into brewed coffee, with a cup of instant coffee containing the greatest amount, followed by espresso and filtered joe.
