Bumper Sticker

You have many valid points. So, why bother with all that writing? Where is your bumper sticker?

That's not our job

You wrote:
"It would seem that attempts at balanced programming, unbiased reporting and reasoned discussion are so much time wasted when arriving at a new way of thinking is deridingly referred to as flip-flopping?"

It's not our job as writers to change someone's way of thinking. It's our job to provide the fuel for the debate that can bring change. Change is a slow and fluid process, you can't demand it by saying, "I'm right, you're not!."

I'm hoping your post was tongue-in-cheek that missed the mark, because there's something quite ironic about having to tell a psychology professor that his frustration and "why bother" attitude stems from his in ability to control others. LOL

My Dear Tessa

Thank you so much for 'splaning my job. I often wondered what I was doing around here. It's just too bad you didn't reference some of your work so that I could see how it's done. LOL LOL LOL

All such attempts at jocular repartee aside, I shall repeat that I am truly disturbed by the prevailing tendency to see virtue in staying the course and to view alternative thinking as a less than honorable option. There's no harm in flip-flopping. Trust me...I sometimes change my mind six times before breakfast.

And I would be perfectly content to, as you say, "provide the fuel for the debate" (is that a mixed metaphor?) but only if I felt it wouldn't be greeted by the likes of an Official Decider...aka truculent moron.

And Jann,

I don't know about a bumper sticker but I've already picked an epitaph:

You Had Your Chance
and Now He's Gone

Just keep swimming....

LOL!

You are free to email me privately, I will happily show you some of my writing. I am a professional journalist; one of the last, I fear. :-(

And I do agree with you. The diginyourheelsandneveradmityou'rewrong attitude that I encounter on a daily basis as well, is more than disturbing. It's limiting. Not only to the "truculent moron," but to all of us. It limits growth, it limits imagination, it limits life.

But, as my favorite philosopher says: "Just keep swimming, just keep swimming...."

"I will happily show you some of my writing."

And I'll look forward to seeing it.
