John is the William H. Seward Endowed Chair in International Finance Professor of Finance at the University of Alaska Anchorage. He is an expert in behavioral finance and socially responsible finance. He has often been quoted or appeared in the financial media, including The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Fortune, Business Week, Smart Money, Washington Post, Bloomberg, and CNBC, and other media from The Dolans to TheStreet.com.

John has authored/coauthored ten finance trade books, textbooks, and scholarly books that have been translated into eight languages (Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, and Thai). His book, The Psychology of Investing , is in its 5th edition and is popular with investment advisors. As such, John is a frequent speaker on this topic, presenting 45 times at practitioner associations, industry conferences, businesses, and individual investor associations. John is a prolific scholar who has published in multiple disciplines. He has published nearly 50 articles in prestigious scholarly journals (like the Journal of Finance and Journal of Business) and practitioner journals (like the Financial Analysts Journal and Journal of Wealth Management). He both contributes to the scholarly literature and helps bridge the gap between theory and practice among academics and practitioners. He has numerous scholarly works in all three major areas of finance: (1) investments, (2) corporate finance, and (3) financial markets. But he is most widely known in the area of behavioral finance and has recently been working in socially responsible finance. He has presented his work 60 times at universities and conferences and collaborated with over 30 other scholars around the world.
