Per Šmidl lived in a wagon in Copenhagen’s Christiania for two years. His autobiographical novel, Wagon 537 Christiania, which describes living among people with individual and original approaches to life, will be published by Serving House Books in August 2013. Excerpts from this novel will appear in several American literary magazines. After his time in Wagon 537 Per Šmidl moved to Paris, then California, and when he returned to Denmark he wrote the bestseller Chop Suey. Many years as a political dissident in Prague followed after the publication in Denmark of his book Victim of Welfare in 1995. Some of his previous publications include the novel Mathias Kraft, 1999, and the essay ”Ytringsfrihed," 2006, which means “Freedom of Speech.”
