Sibling Leadership Network hosts 10th annual conference

Event brings together siblings of people with disabilities

The Sibling Leadership Network will host its 10th annual conference June 24-25, 2017, in Hartford, Connecticut. The two-day event brings together siblings of people with disabilities to learn about new services and support, research initiatives and advocacy efforts.

The conference is intended for siblings of people with disabilities, people with disabilities, parents and professionals. Speakers include filmmaker Brian Donovan and Newsday writer Kimberely A. Martin.

Workshops include topics like national disability policy, interaction with the police and sibling advocacy.

Sibling Leadership Network is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide siblings of individuals with disabilities the information, support and tools to advocate with their brothers and sisters and to promote the issues important to them and their entire families.

Connecticut-based siblings can apply for scholarships to attend the conference. Applications are due by May 31.

In addition to the annual conference, the SLN maintains a listserv to help connect siblings of people with disabilities and disseminate information about policy, advocacy efforts and research.
