Ron Breazeale, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist in Portland, Maine. He has focused on resilience as well as drug and alcohol treatment. Breazeale founded the Maine Resilience program. He is the author of Duct Tape Isn’t Enough: Survival Skills for the 21st Century as well as two novels Reaching Home and First Night.
In this column we explore how we confront, or in many cases try to avoid dealing with, the hard times. We examine, in detail, the skills and attitudes that build and maintain our resilience, our ability to bounce back from misfortune and tragedy. We do this through storytelling, through listening to others, and through listening to ourselves.
