Peter Bongiorno is a naturopathic doctor, acupuncturist, and author of Healing Depression: Integrated Naturopathic and Conventional Treatments. He is also co-director of InnerSource Natural Health and Acupuncture in New York City and Huntingon, Long Island. Before medical school, Bongiorno researched in neuro-endocrinology at the National Institutes of Health and Yale University, then attended Bastyr University for his naturopathic doctorate and acupuncture degrees. He teaches at NYU, the Natural Gourmet Institute, and lectures at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He serves as VP of the New York Association of Naturopathic Physicians where he works on licensing naturopathic doctors in New York State. He specializes in preventive care and difficult-to-treat chronic conditions using natural medicines. A major contributor to the third edition of the Textbook of Natural Medicine (Elsevier), Bongiorno was asked to write the CAM chapter on Depression for The Biology of Depression: Novel Insights to Therapeutic Strategies (Wiley) before authoring this textbook.
