Norman Rosenthal

Norman E. Rosenthal, M.D., is an internationally recognized psychiatrist, author, and was the first researcher to describe seasonal affective disorder (SAD). During his twenty years at the National Institute of Mental Health, Dr. Rosenthal pioneered the use of light therapy as a treatment now used by millions of people. 

He is currently Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Georgetown Medical School, and the author of over 200 scholarly articles and several popular books, including Winter Blues and The Emotional Revolution

Dr. Rosenthal has maintained a private practice in the Washington metropolitan area for over three decades, and has conducted numerous clinical trials of medications for psychiatric disorders.

Recently, Dr. Rosenthal has directed his research interests to Transcendental Meditation, leading him to use TM in the treatment of a diverse array of physical and psychological problems. This interest is reflected in his latest book, Transcendence: Healing and Transformation Through Transcendental Meditation (Tarcher Penguin, 2011).
