Joshua Gowin, Ph.D.
Joshua Gowin, Ph.D., recently accepted a post-doctoral position under Martin Paulus at UC San Diego to explore the brain's role in drug abuse and addiction. He earned his doctorate in behavioral neuroscience from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in 2011 for his work on the cycle of violence and the processes in the brain that may underlie it. He has also published studies on human aggression and the ability of alcohol, serotonin and various drugs to alter it. He has written for Psychology Today, where he was an intern in 2009. He has also contributed to the HealthLeader, The Psychology of Dexter and The Psychology of the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Author of
You, Illuminated
You, Illuminated is my chance to explore all the fascinating topics in the field of neuroscience, and the broader fields of psychology and behavior. My research focuses on a very small (but important) piece of the neuroscience pie, but my interests lie far and wide. I got interested in neuroscience because of its ability to explain what's going on inside our heads. You, Illuminated provides an excellent forum to muse on the mental process of lying, the merit of 'smart drugs,' and what makes humans so smart.
