Eric A. Fertuck, Ph.D.
As both a psychologist-psychoanalyst and a clinical researcher, I am part of an investigatory team that investigate Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) from many perspectives including the social, neurocognitive, physiological, and neural. The interdisciplinary study of interpersonal behavior from these levels defines the emerging discipline of social cognitive neuroscience. Consistent with this approach, the research my colleagues and I conduct utilizes state-of-the-art methods and techniques of modern neuroscience and behavioral science. Eventually, this approach and these methods can be used to identify the mechanisms that underlie BPD and other psychiatric disorders, and to inform and evaluate prevention and therapeutic interventions. I have authored more than 25 peer reviewed scientific papers, book chapters, and reviews largely focused on BPD. My research is supported by the National Institute of Mental Health, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and the Fund for Psychoanalytic Research.
