David Livingstone Smith, Ph.D.

David Livingstone Smith, Ph.D., earned his Ph.D. in philosophy at the University of London (Kings College) where he did work on the philosophy of mind and the philosophy of psychology. He is associate professor of philosophy at the University of New England and director of the New England Institute for Cognitive Science and Evolutionary Studies.  Smith's research interests lie mainly in philosophy of psychology and moral psychology. He has a particular interest in self-deception, dehumanization, the psychology of war, and Freudian theory. He lives in Portland, Maine, with his wife Subrena and their dog Zadie.
