Christine L. Carter, Ph.D.
Christine Carter, Ph.D., is a sociologist and happiness expert at UC Berkeley's Greater Good Science Center, and she teaches parenting and happiness classes online to a global audience.
In her online Raising Happiness classes, Dr. Carter teaches simple skills that set the stage for emotional health and confidence in our children, while helping parents become happier themselves.

Best known for her science-based parenting advice, Dr. Carter follows the scientific literature to understand ways that we can teach children skills for happiness, emotional intelligence, and resilience. She is the author of RAISING HAPPINESS: 10 Simple Steps for More Joyful Kids and Happier Parents and she teaches parenting classes to a global audience online.
Carter has helped thousands of parents find more joy in their parenting while raising happy, successful and resilient kids. Known for her parenting and relationship advice, Carter draws on psychology, sociology, neuroscience, and uses her own chaotic and often hilarious real-world adventures as a mom to demonstrate the do's and don'ts in action.
Dr. Carter also writes a blog for the Greater Good Science Center which offers parents science-based tips for fostering well-being in children. Her parent-to-parent tone and humorous, tell-all approach make scientific research accessible and fun for parents and teachers. In 2010 she received an award from the Council on Contemporary Families for her outstanding science-based reporting on family issues.
Dr. Carter has been quoted in Women's Health and Parenting magazines, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, USA Today and dozens of other publications. She has appeared on the "Oprah Winfrey Show," the "Rachael Ray Morning Show," "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," "CBS Sunday Morning," "ABC World News with Diane Sawyer" and NPR. Her blog is syndicated on Psychology Today, the Huffington Post and other websites.
Carter loves to speak to parents, grandparents, and teachers; she has been a key-note speaker at Harvard and numerous other schools and professional groups. She has two children and lives with her family near San Francisco.
