What Jealousy Teaches Us

The toughest teachers in grade school were probably the ones who taught you the most; jealousy, one of the most difficult emotions to weather, is similarly instructive. Nurturing it is self-destructive but listening to its cues can lead you to a more fulfilling path in life.

Jealousy

As emotions go, jealousy is neither subtle nor kind, but it is definitely complex, encompassing feelings from fear of abandonment to rage to humiliation. It strikes both men and women when they perceive a third-party threat to a valued relationship, and that distinguishes it from envy, which involves wanting something someone else has.

Almost all of us have experienced a failed relationship, and most of us have to work consciously to master the skills necessary to make them flourish.
