It is so easy to have life's obligations and responsibilities get the best of us. You may or may not have your day planned, THEN BAM! You get distracted with something that makes you lose focus. There is one thing about me, well many things, but one very special thing about me, I am very open and very candid with where I was; where I am currently and where I want to go. But, with a busy house, graduate school, relationship, and self-care life really does get hard to manage at times.
I want to talk to about your day to day tasks. Are you getting all you need to get done? How do you manage your days? How do you manage your days when there are distractions like the ones I mentioned above?
We cannot escape the day to day routines of life. It is inevitable that things will distract us; divert our attention away from the main goal in sight, but with time management you will begin to see a subtle transitioning of position. Your goals are being met, you are working smarter, not harder. You are getting more done in the day. It is easy ONCE you make it a daily habit. All it takes is discipline to actually sit down and do the acknowledging and recognizing of challenges that present themselves to you.
I want you to do an exercise with me. Look back on a time when you became so frustrated because so much time was lost on a frivolous task. Do you remember the feeling? Grasp it in your hands and don't let go of it. When you are finding yourself in a like moment, stop and remember how the result felt when you neglected to take care of the PRIORITY that was on your schedule for that day. Remember the result!
Here are some helpful tips on how to manage your days more efficiently:
1. Start your morning off with intention. Pray, Meditate , Journal, Breathe, Play with your animals. Whatever it is, start your day off with JOY not busy negative self-chatter.
2. Then, either in the morning or the night before do the following....
a. Make a list: Calls you have to make; projects that need attention; chores that need your attention.
b. Identify what the problem area is that you want to pay attention to that day.
c. Write out your SPECIFIC goal. Make sure it is manageable and realistic
d. Identify roadblocks that you MAY encounter.
e. Identify coping skills to get through those roadblocks
f. What will help you achieve your goal
Remember, life happens. Be Flexible! Don't get hard on yourself if you fall off the track. Jump back on. You have a great tool here, so use it.
