What is called "Hyperactivity" in childhood can be called Massive Action for an adult. Children who want to do lots of things other than sit still and passively listen in a classroom are going to get in a lot of trouble. In contrast, an adult who runs their own business will get lots of results if they take massive action.
When Paul Orfalea was in third grade he could not read or write very well. His teachers humiliated him. He told them "One day I will run a large company and my secretaries will do all the reading and writing for me." Paul Orfalea went on to found Kinko's and later sold it for over 2 billion dollars.

What do people with ADD know that others can learn from?
- When "Fire, Ready, Aim" works better than "Ready, Aim, Fire"
Sometimes you can overthink what your next step is. I have seen people know exactly what they need to do to move the ball forward and sit there and look at it for three years without taking any action. Join Club ADD, figure out what your next step is and take it.
- Take Massive Action
Once you know what your next step is, don't just take action, take Massive Action. Too many give up after a few tries and and say, "I already tried and failed." If you want a date on saturday night, don't ask out one or two people and give up if you don't get the response you want. If you ask 15 people out on a date and only one says yes, you have a date on saturday night.
- Shape Your Environment Rather than Be Shaped By It.
If a child in school doesn't follow directions it's called defiance. If an adult creates their own rules it can be leadership. My training taught me that ADD was a deficit disorder. For some reason I always really liked people with ADD and thought they were more creative, interesting and tapped in that others without the diagnosis. Instead of labeling people with a disorder and focusing on their weaknesses, I created a coaching practice where I focus on people's strengths and build motivation and confidence.
