Holding in Mind; Forgetting as We Engage

We do not forget. Yet we forget the self as we engage in this moment.

Dear readers,

Forgive my long absence from the blogosphere. A growing time, immersed in networking and trying to raise funds for our our Coming Home Project for veterans and families, which recently received recognition as a top practice nationally for reintegration, from among ~ 35,000 (www.cominghomeproject.net). I've also been teaching a fair bit on the themes in my book, Zen and Psychotherapy: Partners in Liberation. Have a look at some blog posts, http://sweepingzen.com/2009/12/22/joseph-bobrow-bio/ . One is an interview, the other, Meeting the Unspeakable, examines the unfolding earthquake-tsunami- nuclear meltdown tragedy in Japan.

Memorial Day thoughts. We do not forget, we hold in our hearts those that are no longer with us, those that gave their lives. And all those impacted by military service, including families and providers, and all of us in this intimately interconnected web of life. I hold my dear friend COL David Rabb, ACSW, Commander of the 113th Combat Operational Stress Unit deploying to Afghanistan, his beautiful children and his wife Kim, and the 43 other behavioral health specialist soldiers and their families. They are going into a very dangerous situation to help alleviate the increasingly serious psychological condition of many of those serving. We do not forget them, and all those on all sides, so impacted by these wars, and we pray for their safety, and a swift conclusion.

We do not forget, and yet, in Zen, we forget the self as we engage fully in this task, this moment. Is there a conflict here? Do not forget / Forget the self. I ask you. How do you respond?

Welcome back, dear readers. Stay in touch,

Joseph
