Adult Diapers for When Your Bladder Stops Working as Advertised

This would cause my thong-wearing readers to consider suicide

As a writer, my core audience tends to be college-age and young adult. If I mentioned a review of adult diapers, many of my readers would assume I was talking about a form of kink.

But the fact is, having a bladder that works as advertised is a huge issue in the way we feel about ourselves. We ususally don't think about bladder control as being one of our sexy assets until it no longer is.

Fortunately, modern medicine has things to throw at incontinence. But when that arsenal goes dry, our patients have no choice but to wear adult diapers--a thought that would cause many of my thong-wearing readers to consider suicide.

So I was mildly blown away to read a thoughtful, well-researched and helpful review of adult diapers in Slate. The writer not only researched the different brands, but he wore and "road tested" each brand: Target (Affirm), Walgreens (Certainty), Kroger (Kroger), Depends, Attends, and Molicare. To give you an idea of the process, here's his intro to the Kroger house brand:

"My experience with Kroger was particularly memorable, which isn't a good thing when it comes to diapers. They were about as absorbent as a drainpipe, sagging under the weight of the water and leaking like Daniel Ellsberg. These pull-on-style diapers went on easily and didn't actually feel too bad when I wore them dry, but years of using my congenitally cheap roommate's Rite-Aid-brand toilet paper has steeled me for discomfort."

You would think that the more upscale brands like Depends and Attends would fare better. Not much.

For anyone who needs to wear adult diapers or who purchases them for a parent, you will find much that is helpful in Justin Peters' What's the Best Adult Diaper? from the Slate Geezer Issue.
