I naively thought everyone knew that being locked up alone in a tiny cell -- sometimes for years at a stretch -- is bad for one's psyche. Read More

Medicine before bars
Different reactions might depend on what stage their Depression is in. A young and old Depressive will respond differently. Bipolar's will respond differently then the chronic Depressives. Moderate depressive might respond yet more distinctly from the chronic ones.
Maybe, someone who was normal and wrongly convicted, might commit suicide; which could be considered a normal response.
As a society we need to continue to encourage the mentally ill to take and stay on their medicine,so to keep them from psychosis and prison.
Of course, I know mentally ill people who aren't in prison-Probably only because of luck.
Tommy Silverstien
"Tommy Silverstien has been locked in solitary for a WHOPPING 27 years"
Tommy Silverstien should remain in solitary confinement for another 27 years if he lives that long. A member of the Aryan Brotherhood who while already in a Maximum Security Prison committed premeditated murder by stabbing a guard over 20 times. I think if the courts are going to hear poor poor Mr. Silverstien's case they should take into account that they are being sensitive to a man that deserves every second of the multiple life sentences he has been sentenced to.
The ACLU is a pathetic joke sometimes, and frankly need to be screened before they can take on a case of violation of human rights on everybody and tie up the appelate system with BS!! Some people deserve exactly what they have been given, and it's my job as a taxpayer to house these evil people in prison. Which i will gladly do so that i can be somewhat secure that these convicted people are not out in the world because the ACLU successfully argued that the crack addict who went on a killing spree and murdered 8 people is really a swell guy!! Cheese and crackers!! You want to do something to benefit everyone, turn the damn lights off at night. Save the taxpayers some dollars and let the prisoners enjoy a few hours of minimal light!! It's a win win!!
