I enjoyed your post and the points you made. I think that the same points could be made for anybody regardless of their pay grade.
Does the crunch not reveal our real purpose?
I wonder whether the objective of coaching is to keep the CEO on top of their decision game - I always took that to be the job of the Chair(man) of the Board and the non-exec Directors as they are ultimately responsible for the decisions and implementation.
In today's climate, isn't our role a lot clearer in that it is too soak up negative energy so that the CEO can remain appreciative and spread a sense of appreciativeness throughout the organization.
To coach the CEO within (his) own role smacks far too much of poor organizational design - too much to do or poor training & development. Would we for example be too happy if the General or our neurosurgeon had to have a coach on-the-job?
I think the British public right now would be very unhappy to hear that someone who earns millions isn't quite up to what (he) is doing.
