It is a mournful but fitting coincidence that Fossett's brave and audacious act would make him an illustrative example for both editions of this book that investigates why men risk, but sad that in this final case, the risk was too great.

In a potboiler novel, the twist, of course, would be that Fossett faked his death, burned his aircraft, and is now living with the alluring Jaime C. Confer on an island paradise.
