Don't forget that when you consistently follow a sports team over the course of a season-- or many seasons-- and your team is in contention-- the end comes abruptly. If that ending is not a happy one, not only are you dealing with the loss itself, but you are also dealing with the abrupt withdrawal from your relationship with the team. Not only have your hopes for your team been snatched away, but suddenly, there's no game tonight, or tomorrow night-- when that game has been a constant in your life for months.
