Presidential Personality Part 6: Help Wanted

A Want Ad for the US President?

On this Election Day, Tuesday, November 4th, voters will go to the polls to complete the process of selecting our next president.

Over the past two weeks I have written a series of posts concerning the elements of personality that make a great president of the United States (and likely, a great leader more generally). These can be summarized, most briefly, in the form of a want ad, for a great president is surely something we want.

One might reflect on a future time when we, as an electorate, are sufficiently wise to prefer presidents who tell us the truth (as opposed to being machiavellian) and who, perhaps, are higher in achievement on our behalf than in power needs.  But here we are: this seems to be our present reality.

To that psychological profile, each of us must add the political orientation, political commitments, and national policies we most would like to see our next president advocate for.  Such political considerations, however, go well beyond personality (and well beyond my expertise).

For that reason, I leave off with the personality description in the above want ad and invite you to fill in the remaining political portion of the ad according to your own best judgment.

Once you have made your decision, I hope you will join me and go out and vote.
