Weaving sacredness into daily life is the ultimate labor of the laity. One cannot fabricate such a soulful life only from within; it has to engage the world. The soul is not contained in us. Only some elements of the soul belong to the individual; the rest are out there in the world. When what seem to be ordinary sentiments, thoughts, feelings, and sensations of the inner life are mixed with what seem to be ordinary chores or things of the outer life, they are transmuted into the soul.
