Fallen Heroes of Children's Mental Health

About two weeks ago, new developments were reported nationally on separate ongoing scandals involving two of America’s top experts in children’s mental health -- making their situations appear worse. The impact is sure to cause untold damage to parents’ belief in these doctors and the causes they espoused.

Well-written, cogent, and devastating

Thanks for pulling these developments together in a cogent and understandable way.

Easy to read article about disturbing activities

I liked the comparison between doctors and priests. These findings should be a wake-up call. We are focusing too much on biology in our treatment of all humans, children or adults, and should consider medications as a last resort, not, as the industry has moved today in considering these high powered drugs the "end-all, be-all." May doctors out there open their eyes a little wider.

Thanks also to Psychology Today....I hope to see more on these crooks, and more on real research that may reflect more fairly on actual medical research with regards to antipsychotics.

ATYPICAL ANTIPSYCHOTICS

Thank you for your clear and cogent articles. After having had my only son killed by Zyprexa, and my daughter nearly committing suicide by SSRIs and Lamical, I have lost total faith in any psychiatrist. It is a profession filled with payola, fakery, and quackery. I hope Senator Grassley keeps going, rooting out the worst of the worst.

Fallen Heroes of Children's Mental Health.

Dr. Diller:

Concerning your comments about the contribution that these two doctors have made. There is an excellent book on male sex abuse victims by Dr. Richard Gartner, who founded the William Alanson White clinic for Sex abuse in New York.

This passage might interest you:

From "Beyond Betrayal" a book about male sex abuse, by Dr. Richard Gartner:

Many child abusers are attracted to careers and avocation that make them special in the eyes of the community. They may be teachers, clergy, scoutmasters, choirmasters, coaches, Big Brothers, child care workers, doctors or other health workers or civic leaders. These positions can help an abuser gain access to children and serve as a cover for the abuse they commit. Serving in these roles can also be a form of insurance, so if they get caught, they’ll have ample support and plenty of advocates to state unequivocally, “This person could never hurt a child.”

Sounds like that's went on in the cases of these two doctors in terms of their accomplishments. Their achievements became a cover when their crimes were exposed, so people such as yourself would have trouble believing they were capable of those crimes.

It sounds as if it's very painful for you to reconcile what these men did, Dr. Diller. It appears that they have betrayed you and countless others in the medical community.

And although you didn't mention the case of child psychiatrist Dr. William Ayres, it appears that his lawyer has approached the district attorney about a plea deal. Nothing has been settled or agreed upon and the trial will take place in May of this year.
