Sober Thrills

After 6 months of sobriety, I took up downhill skiing, something I had previously been scared of because of the speed and the heights. It really wasn't my idea of a good time at all until then, but I needed to push myself to do daring things. Not only because of the thrills that came with it, but also the freedom that came with it once I had overcome my fears. it took time, but I gradually became a better skier, which in turn built my confidence up. I became a risk-taker in my work life also, embarking on a new career and building up my own business (still in the process of doing that). Even though I've had to deal with a lot of other problems in my life, I would never trade my new (4 and a half years now) sober freedoms and fearlessness to that crazy life I spent with alcohol! My life is not dull and boring at all, on the contrary, I get the feeling that life with all its beauty and turbulence is available to me now, and that I can find ways to handle it when it gets rough.
