How to Transform Problems into Strengths

Trust and the Situation Will Change

Trusting sets you up to create change.

Many people are staring down the barrel of the holiday season with fear about what is around the corner. Many have lost their jobs or fear they will. Many see their families and friends taking on terrible coping strategies to deal with their fears about economic security. Some people see yet another cheerful season of brotherly love as a slap in the face to the heart-breaking personal losses they have gone through.

When your life breaks down you can either fall apart by holding on to the past or get excited and check out the new direction you are going in. If you can trust that positive forces are at work for you, you can be suddenly awakened to a new dimension of your life direction. This may be hard to swallow but I have observed it over and over again:

TRUST AND THE SITUATION WILL CHANGE.

You may keep thinking that if you figure out every possible catastrophic outcome and create plan A, plan B, and plan C, you are mastering your situation. It is a good idea to create strategies, but you need to add a dose of trust. Believe that what you are facing is an opportunity for a more liberated and free life. You can choose to believe that mysterious forces are at work to lead you closer to your purpose and passion. If for example, you have lost a job, you can use your time to awaken creativity and parts of yourself that you weren't aware of before. You can stay open to surprise. Remember, TRUST and the situation will change. The shock of loss can electrify your destiny, and turn you toward your creative spark.

When you have lost so much you can be freed up to begin experimenting with life because you have nothing to lose. You can be both grim and grateful, somehow heavy at your losses but giddy with excitement about the wonders that enter your life. You can be weighed down with sadness of what will never be, and reverential of the power of your spirit to explore a bigger world than you ever knew before. You know you can lose much and still live with great vibrancy.

If it seems too Pollyannaish to trust, remind yourself that the other option is to doubt. Doubt will create fear, anger, and a tendency to blame. You become paralyzed when you doubt. When you trust that a new direction is opening up for you, you begin to actively look for what's around the corner, and seek out new possibilities. Trusting sets you up to create change. Don't wait for the situation to change to begin trusting again.
