He identified himself as a Pentecostal on my e-mail, and asked for an interview in regard to my recent book, September Songs. My book is about "young-old" adult long-marrieds (couples 50-75 yrs), so I thought the topic of our talk would be clear. But should I identify myself as Secular in advance, or just let the subject come up in our talk? Read More

perhaps i can shed light on the mystery?
I do no think that the fact that he was a Pentecostal was particularly significant, since most (all?) mainstream branches of Christianity emphasize sexual morality to some extent.
Based on his questions, it seems clear that he was concerned about what he perceived to be a growing trend, possibly caused to some extent by Viagra, in people in the age group you were studying sleeping with more than one person, either at the same time or in a series of casual relationships.
I realize that wasn't what you were studying exactly so it must have felt like a waste of your time for someone to ask you a bunch of questions that aren't really pertinent to your work.
To contribute my two cents' worth, I am peeved with a growing trend within American Christianity to spend so much energy toward dealing with other people's sins and so little energy admitting and changing one's own sins. I mean, the LDS Church's huge support of Proposition 8 in California is a disgrace. If everyone is a sinner, this Pentecostal who called you up has better things to worry about than what other people are doing in their bedrooms, such as his own role in bugging psychiatrists over the phone, and stuff. He should repent!! Am I right?
Anyways, keep up the good blog posting!
