Autism Awareness: Free On-line Conference April 9 &10 Keynote Temple Grandin

Free Virtual Autism Conference April 9-10 Keynote Temple Grandin

Whenever I give a keynote speech or presentation on autism as I did last weekend in Jackson, Mississippi, I get lots of questions from parents and educators on how I got Jeremy to where he is today - a high school graduate (hear his commencement speech here) now attending community college. I can tell you this - I didn't do it alone.

Raising and educating a child with autism takes a team of dedicated people. It's expensive, and as there are different treatments and therapies out there, parents need to get educated about autism.

That's why in honor of Autism Awareness Month, I'm co-sponsoring a free on-line conference with momsfightingautism.com on April 9 and 10. Many parents can't attend conferences because of the cost or lack of respite coverage for their child, others live in rural areas. On these two days, they can attend on-line a conference for free.

Temple Grandin, Ph.D., subject of the recent Emmy award-winning HBO movie, will be the keynote speaker on Saturday at this "Get Educated About Autism" conference. Dr. Grandin will be discussing "The Basics Every Child Needs to Learn." On Sunday, I'll be the keynote speaker on "Parent Empowerment Strategies: More Than Just Coping."

Some of the people who have been instrumental in helping Jeremy becoming the young man he is today will be presenting. Dr. Carl Hillier will discuss vision therapy, Darlene Hanson will talk about communication, Nancy Brady will cover inclusion, and Michelle Hardy will tell us about neuromusic therapy. Other speakers include: Dr. Cathy Pratt on best practices in education; Elaine Hall, author of Now I See the Moon; Areva Martin, Esq author of The Everyday Advocate; Dr. Feder on medications and autism; Julie Matthews on nutrition; Beth Gallagher on adult supports; Lauren S. Henry creating a calm environment; Brian King on workplace communication; Lindsey Biel on sensory smarts; Eric Chessen on exercise; Dr. Jed Baker on effective social and behavioral interventions; Dr. Lori Ernsperger on girls with autism.
