That's the way it is

Quite literally, I could not agree with you more. Although, I have a more tidy explaination for the American media's behavior in the last few years. I think that our country is more misogynist than ever. Clinton and male celebs who have tawdry affairs are sometimes ridiculed for a short amount of time, but the women involved are ultimately the long term targets of torture.

Spears, Hilton and others female celebs who have had success are followed ruthlessly by the papparazi predators and every second of their lives is photographed. Spears was even stalked this way when she had just given birth to her child. I'm surprised the two weren't stoned to death. And any editorial stories of Clinton being the victim of sexist campaigns were relegated to the cobwebbed corners of the paper.

Look on the website of PETA, an organization run by women, for more sexism, and take note which curse words the government (FCC) has deemed appropriate for primetime. The words begin with B, W and S. Scarlet letter indeed.

Thank you for the link! I'm glad to learn about groups who share my concern. I also try to avoid media which promotes a negative Pygmalion effect, kind of like avoiding bars when one is trying to quit smoking. Hopefully it can work.

the negative influence of the media

It is so bad that it provides an opportunity for the observant parent to express an opposite opinion...beginning with "What do you think of that? The catch is, these conversations do not occur as planned but during bath time, carpools ( a great time to evesdrop because to them you are invisible and at shared sporting events, either active or observant. An opportunity to participate not pontificate.
