It's Eating Disorders Week around the world, and Ireland's finally has its first-ever residential eating-disorder facility. It was long overdue; before the Lois Bridges Centre opened last fall, three beds at St. Vincent's Hospital in Dublin were the only ones in all of Ireland "designated for the treatment of eating disorders nationally," according to Ireland's Business Post.
Care at six-bed Lois Bridges will cost €4,500 ($6,072) a week. Established in a restored Georgian house, the center offers treatment strategies including cognitive analytical therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, nutritional therapy, guided-imagery therapy, group therapy, and mind-and-body therapies such as yoga, dance, art, and meditation. Although the care is highly individualized, the center also emphasizes group sessions involving themes such as body image, relationships, and -- this is a hard one, as all of us who have recovered from eating disorders know -- meals and cooking.
