Thanks a lot for an interesting read. This issue has also bothered me; sleep seems so counter-intuitive in the context of evolution. I always concluded this must mean sleep is really, really important!

It amazes me in how foolish

It amazes me in how foolish people are. There is no real actual proof that the earth is billions, millions, or even a hundred thousand years old. There is no proof. Understanding planetary corrosion shows that the aging of our planet could not possibly have been in the millions of years or more.
