No end in sight to the nightmare in Haiti

Unspeakable abuse in a Haitian orphanage

Paul Sebring, a friend of mine who has been working tirelessly for the last six months to help the Haitan people recover from the devastating earthquake and years of privation and abuse posted today about his (and others') efforts to extricate a group of 65 girls from an orphanage in which they were being subjected to starvation and physical abuse by those who were supposed to be caring for them.

It is a harrowing account, to be sure,.  The saddest thing is that although Haiti was once again (very briefly) in the headlines with the marking of the six month anniversary of the quake, the suffering continues on a scale which defies imagination.  As reported in the NY Times this weekend, more than 1,500,000 people are in tents, and only ~28,000 have been resettled.  With hurricane season getting into full swing, the possibility of yet another humanitarian disaster there is very real.

Please read this, pass it on to friends, and give generously.  People like Paul, Partners in Health, Project Medishare and others need our help to continue to do what they can to save lives.  We can't all be in Haiti all the time, but giving even a small amount of money can have a profound impact and can tliterally save lives.
