Such a beautiful legacy ~ the ultimate life lesson from an extraordinary mother and grandmother. My imperfect son turned 16 this year. I've been thinking about his transition to adulthood and hope that I will have the strength to help him achieve independence. Thank you for sharing this bittersweet slice of your life.

The single most powerful lesson a mother can teach their children,, I am so proud of your mom,, everything you do is an honor to her,, I hope I am able to give my children the strength they need in this old world to do and carry on with everything that they ever have to. Despite her elderly age, she must have been a very strong source of support and hence you miss her so much.
As your mother said, it is a big burden to live with kids and grandkids with special needs. Self-reliance is the biggest gift that these kids can get. Every parent should work diligently to introduce their kids to environments that they can handle independently. Never forget that the world is full of opportunities, the challenge lies in looking deep enough.
