She Bets Her Life

A writer and former compulsive gambler reflects on women and addiction.

A one-minute post on addiction and fallibility - with cameo by cats

Bravely she ventures forth into three-dimensional reality.

I'm traveling by train to NY to be part of an interview for 60 Minutes on slot machine addiction. Given that it terrifies me to be without my computer/internet access for those nine days, I decided to not take my computer.  Twenty years ago, I blissfully rode trains without my computer.  I need to re-find that woman.

Just in case one of my readers is a desperately misguided thief who knows my address and wants to burgle a rack of second-hand clothes, five shelves of books and four spoiled cats, I do have a house-sitter.

I expect to have a full-scale panic episode (or fifty) caused by internet withdrawal at some point on the trip.  The good news is that I am willing to experience that.  The bad news is that I won't be able to go on-line, read this post and laugh at myself.
