Why is a coping mechanism

Why is a coping mechanism referred to as a disorder? Coping mechanisms such as this are a means of compensating for lost order. Surely it is the people who cannot find coping mechanisms (no matter how strange they appear to others) and who, thereby, cannot find a way of redressing their required balance of order are the "disordered"
