Heat and brain/cognitive function ?

Thank you for the topical note on heat and health. How does temperature affect brain and cognitive function ? i remember seeing somewhere that brain function starts falling after 80 degrees F. is that true ? is there a systematic body of research on this ? any books etc that you can recommend ? trying to justify an airconditioner.... !
