Fascinating Figures: Oscar Janiger, M.D.

One could argue that there are basically three types of psychiatrists (listed from most common to least common): those who try to keep sick people relatively comfortable and quiet; those who try to make sick people well; and those who try to help "normal" people grow beyond "normality." Dr. Oscar Janiger was certainly of the third category. Read More

I feel like LSD, along with MDMA, is the elephant in the room of psychology. Everyone knows its there, and exactly how big it is, but no one really talks about it.

Excellent film

Just watched your film, Aron, and I must say it was worth every minute. I'll mention it in a future post and provide a link. Thanks for your important work. Some of those interviews are priceless.

The Real OZ

I knew Oscar Janiger for 18 years; he was known by everyone as OZ, for many good reasons, long before Dr. Oz or anyone else laid claim to that moniker. While his LSD research has received some of the notoriety it deserves in the last decade, most of use remember a brilliant, compassionate, no-bullshit guy who would do anything within his power to help his patients. He also knew a great deal about Depersonalization Disorder, which only now is being explored seriously. I was lucky enough to be able to pay him tribute in a book that I had begun with him, and finished without him: Feeling Unreal: Depersonalization Disorder and the Loss of the Self" published by Oxford University Press.
