Let's approach selling as a game. A challenge. An outlet for your introverted strengths. You're an active listener rather than a nonstop talker and an in-your-face seller. You succeed by developing relationships. By finding your own best introverted way of selling, you'll negotiate good deals while generating goodwill. Read More

It's no bias!
It's not a 'bias' to dislike sales. In fact the more we disliked it, the better shape we'd be in collectively. Modern sales/marketing is now the primary educator of the child in many countries (particularly the anglo ones), and is thus one of the main factors creating the fake desires that drive bloated overconsumption and global warming.
Most Americans either know nothing about such things, or genuinely believe that it's more important that they own SUVs and have too much living space than that the millions in low-lying areas fringing the Pacific and Indian Oceans get to keep their countries above water.
The best approach to marketing sales people is to maintain a healthy disgust. Drive them out of your neighbourhoods if possible. We'd be doing well if this sense of disgust spread so far through society that it became almost impossible for employers to recruit them.
Permission marketing
Your comment underscores the importance of permission marketing, a term coined by Seth Godin. It sure beats those dinnertime calls from telemarketers!
To Sell Or Not....
I've taken a lot of different classes in sales training. It's a challenge as an introvert to keep going after the cold calls are met with rejection. I use to listen to music to get me ready for the cold calls. I'm currently previewing a book by Kenneth Eisold called "What You Don't Know You Know" to try and recognize unconscious behavior or action that can defeat the attempts to overcome an introverted nature. It discusses several stress control techniques and biofeedback. So far it's very enlightening! With the right tools, an introvert can be a successful sales person.

Even a few basic sales skills...
Hi Betty,
Thank you for sharing your additional insights and information. Yes, with the right tools and awareness, I agree that an introvert can be a successful salesperson. Of course, not every introvert wants to sell for a living. However, learning even a few basic sales skills can be helpful no matter what career path we choose.
