Rethinking Men
I could not agree more with this article. As a 40 something husband and father I'm often uncomfortable with the way men are portrayed on TV. I love women and truly feel they deserve equality in all that life has to offer. Notice I said equality. It seems like men have to be bad for women to get ahead. Men and women are very different. Why not celebrate our differences? Maybe I'm being overly sensitive, but it seems to me that men differences are called out as negatives, as if we're inferior because of them. Lastly, if anyone in the media were to turn the tables and position the differences of women as inferior they would be fired the next day.
Misandry
This article by Anthony Synnott, PH.D is eye-opening. It is so easy to hate men. I've had real bad relationships with men; unfortnately growing up, it does seems like men are in control and/or dominate all fields of importance. For example, I saw doctors of every kind - all were male - because that's what society tells us - that only men are doctors. Just recently in my 40's, I began seeing women doctors and realized what a great comfort and relief it is. So therefore; without "feminisism", a person like me would never feel comfortable choosing something as simple as gender of a gyncelogist or dentist. There are a few other things to hate men about - it is hard for me not to hate men, but Dr. Synnott's article has made me start to rethink.

For anyone with a conscience the correct answer should be E because to generalize about groups of your fellow citizens is to perpetuate a fundamental injustice. Condemning the injustice caused by Misandry/sexism is as important as condemning the similar injustices cause by Racism and Antisemitism.
I know this is old but I am
I know this is old but I am glad that this article got you thinking. This topic is important to me as I think the institutionalized hatred of men in our society. Equates Maleness with criminality. So many men are not criminals. But because of this bias fathers are denied the right to earn the title of being a great father after divorce. There are so many other examples. I and all men I know struggle with what the definition of manhood is supposed to be. Some of us just throw in the towel and live up to the expectations of those that hate us.
The old ideal of being steadfast and brave,a protector and a responsible and capable man is some how no longer acceptable. The only times I can think of where men are portrayed in a positive light when justifiable violence is involved. How does only showing men as competent when violence is involved good for our perceptions of men? Show me a modern film that praises men. for our virtues. Show me a film about Nansen exemplifying all the greatness he accomplished with his masculine energy. Or any other number of important and impressive manly men from history that were not violent.

Actually, a part of the problem is that women are being taught that they should "have it all" and that men have "had it all" for centuries and have been keeping them from "having it all." I don't think you can find a bigger lie than that. Just count the number of men who have died in wars protecting women and children....those guys "had it all" right?
Synnott is right on the money and a brave soul to speak this truth. Watch closely as he will soon be questioned about whether he really cares for women....

This is a great example of the typical response you can see from feminist ideologues. Notice it starts out with name calling and attempted shaming. "Go back to your MRA boards you big baby." Any third grader can see that this is not meant to bring understanding or to clarify, it is meant to lob a turd-bucket and create a venomous response which can then be used to shame the responder even more. This is truly the work of someone who lacks much cognitive capacity. I suppose we should pity rather than toss back a similar invective.
Then the old stand-by, "It's men who rape, men who mutilate, men who blah blah blah...men = BAD" What this sad sort doesn't seem to get is that men who are violent are a tiny fraction of the population of men and are far from representing men at large. If it is fair to make such a statement then it would be equally fair to say that since women do most of the child abusing and child murder that women are violent Neanderthals who don't care for children. It's easy to see how ridiculous that would be...but why is it so hard to see that the same thing with men is not also ridiculous? It's time we took this sort of argument for what is it worth: NOTHING. This sort of retort is the work of a brainwashed mind and needs to be called out for exactly what it is: inaccurate, inflammatory and immature.

You are right nothing can be done. It usually arises due to some trauma they felt. As a way to "heal" that trauma people such as the poster you are responding to embraced the art of hating all things male. Now, that hate is part of the person but also linked to the initial trauma so it has become more than just a opinion it has become an emotion. No everything, positive or negative is subject to Confimation Bias and would be defended bitterly due to the fact that facing such a fact is tied not only to the initial trauma but subsequent choices that that person has made since.
I.E. admitting that their hatred for men may be wrong or over the top would be like admitting they chose the wrong course of action, made decisions since then based on a mistake, and wrongfully demonized others because of their own unwillingness to accept things.
The name calling and such is part pavlonian reaction and part just being acustomed to only being around others that share the same view. In this case the poster doesn't need to say much because they assume most people see and agree with there view.

Men may be the figurehead but
Men may be the figurehead but they pander to women's needs in the western world. It is also men who die for women, who sacrifice themselves farming, mining, logging, drilling, constructing our buildings and roads, fighting fires, keeping the peace, fighting wars (which most men would never start, and those who die did not choose to start.) Men who give up their seats on the life boats for women and children, men who created the government which allows these women the freedom to hate men and cricize them without fear of reprisal, men whose tax dollars fund things like VAWA which actually hurt themselves by denying them fair trials and access to help in DV situations. Women and men are both capable of horrific violence and malice....we just do not recognize female violence and downplay it or excuse it when it is noticed. We also downplay violence against men, ignoring that half of DV is committed against men and that 2/3 assault victims are men, not women. When violence against men is addressed, usually the response is "but women are victimized more...." as if men are not allowed to have sympathy or help in any way. Men are no angels, but neither are women. I have two sons; are you telling me you hate my boys because they have a penis? Nice. I think that sort of proves this authors article point, not contradicts it. Thank you for providing a wonderful example of misandry.
Human Nature
Yep. The violence, the hate, and all the other ills that are often pinned on men are as it turns out ia a HUMAN issue. But why admit that when you can blame someone else for the evils that humans do. The bible tried to hint at the same thing saying women lead men to do evil and were sinful. Now, its men that are resposbile for the evils in the world. Round and round we go. Victims everywhere and always looking for someone to blame. Men, muslims, conservatives liberals...everyone is looking for someone to blame and now with the internet you can surround yourself in your own world where reality cannot penetrate with its horrible truth. This is just another chapter in the story of us crazy homosapiens.

We constantly see men portrayed in a bad light with women portrayed very differntly even in the exact same situations. Think about it, when a woman kills or molests, she has a mental illness or was pushed to do it by a man and therefore not to blame. If a male does these things, there is no excuse or reason. He is to be hated and punished. We have gone so far as to actually legalize and base laws on minandry any more. As a male that was abused and tried to protect his children, I found out the hard way about the laws mandating investigations, arrests and services based on gender with misandry as the deciding factor.
No, I am not a woman hater or just disgruntled man but someone that thinks his daughter should not have been forced to suffer with rape for years with the laws and society only looking at investigating me while her mother covered it all up for her boyfriends, husband and others using it as a tool for legal advantage. Luckily I finally gained custody but my being jailed on false accusations and our daughter attempting sucide due to the social service workers, law enforcement and court all refusing to listen when she would say it WASN'T me but her mother's frends show had bad things have really gotten.
There is good and bad in BOTH genders which we need to recognize and hating based on gender is no better in either direction or any different that hating based on race, religion or anything else. Judge the actual person and not the external instead.

Honest to God, if I hear another Feminist spew these well-worn (and...um...wrong) talking points in response to a reasoned, well researched article, I'm gonna punch my screen (oh wait, is that 'male aggression'...is it 'unhealthy anger'... is it 'threatening'?).
Go back, read the article again, and check off all the different points in it that apply DIRECTLY to you. Then ask yourself just how much you actually support 'equality', as opposed to being a female-supremacist bigot....

Actually, its worse beause many of the statistics they quote have been show to be cherry picked, fabricated or simply created by design to appear to support outright lies. But they wouldn't be the first and won't be the last people to be lead to believe nonsense wrapped up in fake statistics. Politics is a great example of where this also seems to be common place.

Please post the article or the reasoning you used to make such a statement. Yes statisics are indeed used in such a way and as such as usually be show to be bias or in correct. However, just saying that they are is not goos enough. Either all statistic are valid or non are. if that statement is not true then you have to support you backing or denying of the ones listed. I await your proof of the invalidity of the statistic or the statement that all statistics (including those that support your view) are untrustworthy.

In the spirit of fairness you really should have provided those statistics she asked for. The statement "Either all statistics are valid or non[e] are." is proof that this person, along with feminists in general, don't fully comprehend the merits of statistics and sited studies.
For example, the classic feminist belief that men should be reduced to 10% of the population. They think this would actually benefit women.
The truth is that it would eleminate monogamy and give each and every guy on the planet a minimum of 4 or 5 wives. The women would be in such competition for the attentions of the few men that they would have to work harder than ever in the job market, becoming both the home keepers and bread winners while the man is free to do whatever he wants.
Feminists don't use real statistics because they never say what they're supposed to. Feminists fear real statistics. They're basically like kryptonite.
Therefore, I ask again that you cite evidence that feminist favored statistics are founded in fallacy in order to make your arguement stronger, and potentially cause the opposition to silence in shame.

That alone shows that women have it better than men.
