New state-of-the-art dementia treatment facility is a 1950s-era village. Read More

that's amazing
Apparently the state in California will pay thousands of dollars a month to keep an elderly person in a convalescent home with mind-numbing conditions of noise and sterility, and lousy food... even if the staff are really trying to do their best. My mother was in one for three weeks and I was able to get her out and put her back in her (unsupervised) senior apartment. The load is on me to cook for her and try to keep her out of trouble. I live nearby, but I keep thinking that if the state would give me half of what they would pay to keep her in the facility, I could take care of her really well, and get paid for it... now I can get probably reimbursed for something like $300 (maybe up to $500) a month, if I get the paperwork filed with the agency.
I wonder what it costs to keep people in the little village set up? I bet the residents (and staff) get sick less often (and/or harmed less often) than they do in the regular nursing homes in the US.
cost have got to be sky high
I bet the costs are sky high.
