Why do school-age children need handwriting instruction in the 21st century? That question will be addressed on January 23rd, 2012, National Handwriting Day when hundreds of educators, researchers, and citizens concerned about the demise of handwriting convene in Washington, DC. My opinion on the matter...
I very much enjoyed your post. Your sense of humor seems to coincide pretty well with mine. For example, Voldemort does not have a nose. Does that mean he doesn't have an opinion on handwriting? (I would say the safe answer is yes. I doubt he cares about something so mundane.) I've read some things where handwriting experts say that changing your handwriting can change certain personality quirks. I wonder if this will be brought up at the summit for one of the reasons why it's important for children to learn handwriting. Maybe it could help them learn to be better behaved and more willing to learn.
Love Your Comment!
Maybe Voldemort would place some dark magic on the subject. I' ll ask about handwriting and personality connections. Great question!
Cursive waste of time
Teaching cursive in the age of the keyboard is a waste of time for the English language, with our easily-formed capital and small letters. (Different from, say, Hebrew or Russian).
At a professional level, in my experience, if handwriting is required, people are asked to print, not write in cursive. (I'm a professional writer who also went to law school, I would know.)
Spend the time on reading instead. That's a more important skill that's increasingly neglected.
Handwriting
I think, the handwriting skill is still an useful skill no matter what the time is. Despite the technology are going to much more high tech, HW is the most manual and resourceless writing human has..
Me and my colleagues are making a paper about it though and we would like to see the effect of technology to the development of handwriting in prescholler. I'd glad to have some reading material if any of you would like to share.
Sorry for my grammar, I'm from Indonesia and nice to meet you all :)
Thx, and Best regard
