On the anniversary last week of the Columbine tragedy, I read two newspaper articles that gave me pause. They were writing about how young people who had been wounded on that day coped with the impact of what they had been through. One reporter regretted that we did not understand Post Traumatic Stress as we do now. This understanding might have been helpful to these young people and prevented the damage in their lives that they now experience day to day. Read More
When a parent dies leaving young children there is often an outpouring of advice about how to help these children. I am not comfortable with some of the advice offered albeit well meaning. I think this can an opportunity to call attention to how we define grief; and in this definition we may be able to finds ways to educate, not only the grieving family but those who want to help, as well.
