I'm not an athlete, but

I'm not an athlete, but severalin my family are serious ones - and I think part of what pushes them to devote so much time and incredibly hard work are the VIA character strengths of zest, perseverance and appreciation of beauty and excellence. And rather than being stupid - I think highly competitive people are high in hope, too. They might make the medal stand!

I agree completely. BTW... I did not mean to imply that athletes who pursue gold medals or professional athletics are stupid. They are instead incredibly passionate about what they do.
