You Have Come Such a Long Way Baby!

You have come such a long way, baby, and we are all so very proud of ourselves...aren't we?!

Just how far have you come, baby? Let us count the ways! More women then ever are entering into the political ring, and putting on the boxing gloves for the highest offices in the land. Cardiovascular disease, once the province of men, has become a pervasive and mortal threat to women. More women then ever are billionnaires, and shards from the glass ceiling continue to rain upon us as more and more women hold the coveted position of CEO's to Fortune 500 companies. Across, religions, women are taking on positions once held sacred to men, and in sports (well at least some sports) like tennis, golf, auto-racing and track and field, women are commanding attention and revenue unheard of a generation ago. This of course, excludes lingerie football (see my earlier post on this topic).

Needless to say, or perhaps not, inequties continue to exist in all of these domains, particular in medicine and industry, where women are still underpaid for the same work. But, what drew me to writing this brief blogpost was my experience of yesterday evening watching Bridesmaids. And it was in this not-so-coincidental release that paralleled the wildly popular d**k-flick, Hangover II , that I witnessed the true fruits of the Women's Liberation Movement, and I underscore the word movement, because in one particularly raucous scene, we see our female protagonists farting on the scale of the beans-around-the-camp fire scene from the Mel Brooks' irreverant romp Blazing Saddles, wretching their brains out and relieving themselves anywhere possible..including in the middle of traffic in a custom-made French wedding gown.

The once-impenetrable walls of bathroom humor have been scaled, and on such a grand scale, I must add. Oh, you have indeed come a long way baby, but I am just not sure which end I should be laughing out of!
