ADD, The Food Rollercoaster & Energy Crashes

Important to balance your nutrition and food intake throughout the day

You are what you eat, we've all heard that saying numerous times, so let's avoid any further use of

it and not start a Tweeting process that regurgitates another overused catch phrase. Imagine that, an overused catch phrase on twitter! Let's change our saying to......just do it.....no, that's been used. How bout we just be blunt and direct, eat properly or hit the wall. That seems simple and to the point.

It's incredibly important to balance your nutrition and food intake throughout the day, especially with ADD. Food is body and brain fuel. Think of you, as a vehicle that requires unleaded high octane gas to run properly. If you use a low grade fuel or run out, the vehicle isn't going to run properly. With that, I'd like to offer some eating tips that work very well for me and a lot of others that I know:

1. Have a glass of water as soon as you get up and drink water all day.
2. Manage your portions sizes, don't over eat at any meal. Even if it's a health meal, over eating can have a negative impact slowing down your digestion and you.
3. Snack throughout the day, small healthy snacks between meals is great for energy, getting that metabolism functioning and it sustains energy as opposed to crashing between meals. Things like almonds, celery, granola & yogurt, apple, pear, Wasa crackers with almond/peanut butter, egg whites and veggies
4. If you have a lighter meal like fish or salad, have some brown rice or a piece of flax bread with it. Your body requires this and it helps you from hitting the wall or crashing between meals. Brown rice or a piece of flax bread are required and good complex carbohydrates. Complex carbs are brain food!
5. Avoid the crap. Stay away from those chips, candies and other things you might crave. They are loaded with so much garbage and sugar and will set you up for an energy shut down quickly after. I know it can be hard, you can do it! Reach for the healthy snack instead.

Eat properly or hit the wall, it's simple.
