Don’t Judge an ADD Book By It’s Cover

It's what's on the inside that counts.

Some people with ADD/ADHD have a hard time developing an understanding who they are. I'm not talking about what you see in the mirror, the career or the obvious things here. I'm referring to what's on the inside. Remember when you were little and your Mom or Dad would say things like, "don't judge a book by its cover" or "it's what's on the inside that counts"?

Those encouraging words from parents or others we looked up to as kids had a powerful impact. Can I blame my Mom for boosting my confidence a hundred times a day when I was little as the reason for my previous challenges with ADD based narcissism :) ? Many ADD'ers experience life from the perspective of frustrating experiences, lack of confidence and a false sense of self. An ADD Coach can certainly help with these challenges. When we are younger and these feelings and experiences of frustration and confidence become normal place, they can become part of who a person is. However, this can be corrected. Understanding who you really are, beneath the surface is a journey that is so important. Discovering what your weaknesses are and what strengths you have, which can be built on......can deliver so much clarity in life.

If I could offer one tip on this challenge many people face, it would be to determine what your one main internal weakness is and focus on just that one, to start. If you are challenged by confidence as an example, go research, read, and dive into every imaginable source of information you can on that topic. Get some feedback from people that are close to you. If it's in the budget, work with an ADD Coach for a while. I've said it before and I'll say it again, ADD/ADHD can be beaten.

It's about taking small steps, one day at a time and working on the little things. One day you'll wake up and realize all the effort and hard work has paid off...............and you'll be pretty pleased with the pages of you inside that external book cover.
