David Mandel, CEO of Alliance United Insurance Company, asks a very reasonable question:
Despite all the success stories [on the Internet] regarding the Shangri-La Diet, and the mainstream media stories in 2006 after the book publication, the diet never picked up and seems almost unknown today. Read More

Seth, I'll tell you why.
Seth, I'll tell you why. Because we are majorly competitive bitches, we women who care about our appearance. I'm 41, I have three children and I am a size 6. I fit into my wedding dress and the jeans I wore in college. How? Shangri-La. And there is no way in hell I am going to share my secret with anyone.
Went to the movies this weekend with a group of friends. They had the usual movie fare, I ordered a cup of tea (bag on the side), added two tablespoons of sugar (put the teabag in my purse for later), sipped it slowly throughout the movie, had not ONE craving for the popcorn or natchos or M&M's every one else was scarfing. I went home and had a light dinner and felt terrific!
You're a genius! But I will never tell. No way. No how.
thanks
Thanks, that's nice to hear.
First, I just NOW heard about
First, I just NOW heard about the diet, as in, this morning, an hour ago. So...I can't give you a success story yet but I can tell you how it makes sense. My body wants to stay at 230 ish. I workout (strength and cardio), I have a lot of muscle but I also have that big belly. I look like a Russian weight lifter and that aint attractive (women and children screaming and crying, men grabbing pitchforks and torches....just kidding...it's not THAT bad). I have been trying to figure out how to get that set point to go down. Also, I always knew there was something, simple, different than the norm (since the "norm" hasn't worked)that could be the key.
So, Seth, as a BA level mental health professional I have always thought a psychological view was the "secret". In this case it took a psychologist to unravel this deep mystery and to truly think outside the box.
Why has it not taken off? It is perception. It does seem too good to be true. People would rather continue believing the semi complicated methods that are just different versions of older methods that never really worked for sustained fat loss. Tim Ferris program is actually just old news repackaged (good job on the marketing, Tim!) Also, I have never heard of SLD before. I have never heard testimonials, nothing. I am sure it has appeared a few times on web pages I have been viewing but nothing ever caught my attention. Seth, what can I do to help? I, despite this poorly written comment, am actually an entertaining writer. Let me know if you need some backup. Also, of course, I have to run home tonight, order the book and get started (darn it, already feeling guilty over that super dooper supreme extra huge pizza I have been dreaming of for this weekend).
Note: Keep strength training people. When Green Peace comes to the beach and trys to drag you out to sea, that extra muscle helps fend them off till you can convince them you are not just a really smart whale. True story, happened to me a couple of times (no not really).
hearing about SLD
Thanks, that's nice to hear. I'm encouraged that you finally heard about it...How did you hear about it?
what can you do to help? you can post about your progress at the SLD forums: boards.shangriladiet.com. Where you find lots of useful information.
